Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+ will be updated to Android Pie: 2019 release date and more
Samsung Galaxy A6+ and its smaller sibling A6 was released in 2018. It is traditional for Samsung to release a myriad of mid-range devices and the two phones are just a few that were released on that year. Both A6 and A6+ were introduced to a higher price point, way above what the competition has to offer. Both comes with Samsung’s signature AMOLED display and one of its main selling point.
When it comes to software and security updates, the cadence of roll out for A6 and A6+ is not going to have the same level of support as Samsung’s flagship. That is expected for their mid-rangers. The former having less install base is among the reason, meanwhile one of the perks of the pricey premium is better software support.
Samsung announced a quarterly security update roadmap for the A6 and A6+ — that is if everything goes well. Although, the last security patch, as of this writing comes earlier than announced. It comes with December 1, 2018 security patch level and was preceded by October update.
Users of the eligible models are notified via Samsung Members app. The Android 9 Pie roadmap for the Galaxy A6 and A6+ are included in the list and will be getting update early second quarter. If the Korean company deemed it is ready for prime time, we could see Android Pie rolls out on April 2019.
Android Pie brings forth gesture based navigation, smarter battery management feature, digital well-being and improved security — just to name a few. But of course, this is Samsung and their own user experience on top of Android is still front and center. One UI is going to be updated with cosmetic changes but will also bring new features.
