Don’t Buy the Galaxy A14 5G if You Like Taking Selfies This Way
It may be difficult to generate excitement with a phone featuring a Full HD+ display and 90Hz refresh rate in today’s market. However, the Galaxy A14 5G offers a remarkable value proposition with its advanced features packed into a $200 phone. With this affordable price point, you can enjoy decent enough screen technology without breaking the bank.
Another highlight of the Galaxy A14 5G is its 5000mAh battery. As advertised by Samsung, this phone provides outstanding endurance with a potential battery life of two full days for average usage. However, it’s worth noting that this claim does not take into account extended gaming sessions such as playing Call of Duty: Mobile. Nevertheless, user reports indicate that the battery life of the Galaxy A14 5G is quite impressive.
I can’t stress this enough – Samsung’s OS and security updates, even for their budget-friendly phones like the Galaxy A14 5G, are seriously impressive. The Galaxy A14 5G, which comes with the latest Android 13 out of the box, is promised two Android OS updates. Also included, is a four-year commitment to security – giving you peace of mind and a future-proof device. You won’t find many Android OEMs that provide this level of support.
During my limited hands-on time with the Galaxy A14, it showed no signs of sluggishness. I had the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model, but just keep in mind the $200 US version only has 4GB RAM and half the storage, so performance may vary slightly. However, the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, combined with a 90Hz refresh rate delivers a fast and responsive experience overall.
The Galaxy A14 5G packs a 13MP front camera with f/2.0 for your selfie needs. On the back, it has a “triple camera” setup with a 50MP main shooter and two 2MP sensors for depth and macro photography.

Bye Ultrawide Snapper, Hello Lousy Macro Camera
And that brings us to our main complaint about the camera setup on this phone. The inclusion of a triple camera in the Galaxy A14 5G which is heavily marketed as one of its selling points is more of a gimmick. The additional lenses beyond the main 50MP camera may not add significant value in terms of entry-level photography, making it more of a cosmetic feature.
A 2MP macro camera is often ignored by users due to its low resolution, limited focal range, and poor performance in low light, making it difficult to capture sharp and detailed extreme close-ups in a variety of situations.
If Samsung had included an ultrawide camera in the Galaxy A14 5G instead of the low-quality 2MP macro camera, we may not have been as critical, as having an ultrawide lens would provide more versatility in capturing wide-angle photos. This is something that Samsung already offers in the Galaxy A13.
Tip: If you are into this “.5 Selfie” Craze, avoid this Phone
The main title says it all – If .5 selfies are important to you, it’s better to consider other options. This phone is not the best choice for capturing photos with an ultra-wide lens, as it does not have that capability.

What is a .5 Selfie anyway and why you should (or probably shouldn’t) care?
The trend of taking .5 Selfies has gained popularity on social media platforms such as TikTok due to the unique and entertaining appearance of the photos. They are typically taken with an ultra-wide lens on the back camera, which results in a sometimes distorted and exaggerated view of the subject – whether an individual or a group.
Despite the popularity of the trend, it is important to remember that the ability to take .5 Selfies does not define the Galaxy A14 5G or your decision to purchase it, as the phone remains a solid choice for a budget device.
