Galaxy A53 Receives Android 13 Update with One UI 5
The Samsung Galaxy A53 is a pretty average midrange phone that was released in March 2022. We’ve been using it for a while and it’s just okay overall. Sure, it’s got some fancy features like a 120Hz refresh rate and a Super AMOLED display, but they’re not really anything special. Under the hood, it doesn’t really push the boundaries of what a midrange phone can do. The Exynos 1280 chipset isn’t the fastest and the camera quality is just okay compared to similarly priced phones like the Pixel 6a. Don’t even get us started on the pointless macro lens, it’s pretty limited and doesn’t add much overall.
But, when it comes to software updates, Samsung is still the best. They’ve got a four-year update roadmap for their 2022 Galaxy devices, which is pretty impressive and unmatched by other companies.

Android 13, One UI 5, and Security Update
The Galaxy A53 was one of the first A-series phones to get the Android 13 update. Samsung delivered on its promise and rolled it out in November 2022. It’s a pretty big update, weighing in at around 2GB, that includes the One UI 5 overlay makeover. Along with the software update, you’ll also get a security patch from October 1, 2022. It’s not the most recent patch available but it’s still a good step.

What’s New with One UI 5 Update
Samsung’s One UI has been getting better and better over the years and it’s one of the best skins out there. This year, they didn’t change too much since it was already great. If you’re not too picky, you probably won’t notice a huge difference. But, the icons and symbols are a bit bigger now and the animations and transitions are smoother and faster.
One of the best things about the new update is the customization options. You can now have different backgrounds for your lock screen and home screen and it gets better, the interface colors will automatically adapt to match your wallpaper. You can also customize the clock style on your lock screen.
One of the handiest new features we’ve come across is the ability to long-press on pictures in the gallery that have text, and copy-paste it into notes or messages. It’s not a game-changer or anything, but it’s one of those little things that makes life a bit easier.
