Nokia G50 is unveiled, a midrange phone with 5G connectivity
HMD launched a more modest 5G-capable device in the Nokia G50 and is powered by a Snapdragon 480 chipset. At first glance it looks identical to the Nokia G20, but the similarities end with their shared design language. The Nokia G50 is the more souped-up midrange having a fast 5G connectivity, which is still rare in this price segment.
The Nokia G50 has a massive 6.82-inch LCD display but pixel peepers may find its 720 HD+ resolution lackluster as it only comes with 252 ppi. It also has a waterdrop cutout on the front camera and has a chin at the bottom.
Doing the heavy lifting is a Qualcomm SM4350 Snapdragon 480 which is future-proof with 5G-ready capability. There is 4GB/6GB of RAM and a 64GB/128GB of internal storage configurations.
At the rear is a triple camera set-up nestled inside a circular module, which also looks similar to the design of the Nokia G20. The main rear camera is a 48MP alongside a f/1.8 aperture. Meanwhile, there is a 5MP wide-angle camera and 2MP depth camera. However, the Nokia G50 ditched the macro camera sensor found on its predecessor.
You can charge or connect to the device with its USB Type-C 2.0 port. In terms of biometrics, there’s a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. There is also FM radio feature for those who listen to their favorite radio shows on the go.
If you value getting regular security updates, Nokia G50 has got you covered with 3 years of monthly security updates. Meanwhile, you’ll also get support for the latest Android OS for two years. Upon initial boot up, you’ll be greeted by Android 11 out of the box.
There is also a massive 5000mAh battery that Nokia claims can last up to 2 days till the next top up. Colors available are midnight sun and ocean blue and has a price tag of $299 in the US based on their official website. Release date and availability is expected to be around October 2021.
