Samsung Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s are official: 2021 Budget phones with 5,000 mAh batteries and big displays
Samsung’s budget A series are actually among their bestselling lineup and to make sure its foothold of that market keeps rolling next year, it introduced 2021’s Galaxy A12 and the Galaxy A02s. Both entry level devices are slated to be released next year in Europe and most likely in other emerging countries as well.
Samsung Galaxy A12: Quad-Camera and 5,000mAh battery
The Galaxy A11 was released in March 2020 as a more budget oriented device with a sub $200 price tag. The Galaxy A12 was unveiled as next-in-line to take over the said price range in 2021. The A12 will be fitted with slightly larger screen at 6.5-inch but still retains the HD+ resolution of its predecessor. A little baffling though is that the A12 reverts back to “Infinity V” display instead of the more modern punch hole notch found on the Galaxy A11.
A huge update in stamina department of the Galaxy A12 with 5,000 mAh battery with 15W fast charging capability, so there should be plenty of juice to outlast its predecessor, the Galaxy A11 which has 4,000 mAh.
The Galaxy A12 is now equipped with four cameras at the back whereas the Galaxy A11 is fitted with triple lens. The primary camera is boosted with higher megapixel count as it now comes with 48MP compared to the 13MP shooter found on the Galaxy A11. The remaining three lenses include a 5MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens.
You wont find a rear fingerprint sensor this time around but don’t panic because it is still there. It is now located at the side bezel and still better in recognizing biometrics than optical sensors like on the Galaxy A51.
Doing the heavy lifting is an unspecified Octa-core processor that is clocked at 2.3 GHz and 1.8 GHz. Meanwhile, memory/storage configuration starts at 3GB RAM/32GB storage, 4GB RAM/64GB storage and goes up to 6GB RAM /128GB storage. You can also expand the storage capacity via MicroSD card slot of up to 1TB.
The Samsung Galaxy A12 is available in the following color variants: blue, black, white and red. It will be sold in Europe on January 2021 and starts €179 for the base model.
Samsung Galaxy A02s: Triple-Camera and 5,000mAh battery
Next up is the the Samsung Galaxy A02s, which is a follow-up to the entry-level Galaxy A01 that was released in January 2020. The Samsung A02s will be a significant upgrade over its predecessor with better battery life, bigger screen and more cameras in its arsenal.
The modest Galaxy A02s will be sporting a 6.5″ HD+ display with a V-shared notch on top and will be bigger than the 5.7-inch Galaxy A01.
Under the hood is an Octa-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU with Snapdragon 450 chipset. The Galaxy A02s comes with 3GB RAM and a 32GB internal storage that still expandable via MicroSD.
The trio of rear cameras are composed of 13 MP main shooter, 2 MP depth camera and 2MP relegated for Macro photography. Meanwhile, selfie camera is a 5MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture.
One of the edge of the Galaxy A02s over its predecessor is the considerable battery capacity upgrade. The 5000 mAh is quite huge and easily beats the 3000mAh of the Galaxy A01.
This is a budget device and in order to cut corners, there is no fingerprint sensor, which is definitely going to be missed if you are used to unlock you phone that way.
With a price tag of €150, the Galaxy A02s will be available on February 2021 with color choices of white or black.
