iPad 2 and iPhone 4s Gets a Performance Boost via iOS 8.1.1 Update
If you own an iPad 2 or iPhone 4s and it happens you are an early adopter of iOS 8, you know how those devices suffered considerable performance blow after adapting an early version of iOS 8. In order to address the persistent lags and freezes, Apple has rolled out iOS 8.1.1 mainly to address nagging performance issues that crippled the user experience of those older devices.
The size of the update is 121 MB which is also aimed to deliver bug fixes and performance improvements across the compatible iOS family. However, it is not expected to bring noticeable speed bump to latest devices such as iPhone 6 aside from being a minor bug-quashing update.
If you still are using those mentioned iOS devices and previous iOS 8 render them useless, this latest fix is very crucial and it is expected to bring performance up to par.

Updating to iOS 8.1.1
The easier route to get the latest software on a compatible iOS device is through over-the-air update. If your battery is running low, make sure to charge it first or keep it plugged in a power supply, otherwise update won’t push through. As experienced on my iPad 2, the update is a hefty 121 MB so you’ll need to download it using a WIFI connection.
To download on your iPad 2 or iPhone 4s, open Settings, then select General, Software Update. Make sure to clear up some room if it happens that your memory is full.
Initial Impression of iOS 8.1.1 on the iPad 2
In my short time playing with my newly updated iPad 2, I can vouch that iOS 8.1.1 positively delivers a much needed speed boost to the antiquated device. The new update finally adds a lifeline to my aging iPad 2 as opening, closing and navigating apps and operations are noticeably much faster now. Freezes and lags are very minimal unlike the earlier iOS 8 version that pretty much destroyed the user experience of the second generation Apple tablet. With this update, the iPad 2 is very usable once again and gives the outdated tablet a new lease of life.
So there you go, my early impression of iOS 8.1.1, so far so good.
