Galaxy S7- Samsung fine-tunes last year’s model
If there’s anything the just recently announced Galaxy S7 proves, is that Samsung listens to consumer’s feedback– well, most of it. Since last year’s Galaxy S6 drew a lot of criticisms over the absence of microSD expansion slot, water proofing and smaller battery that is non-user replaceable, the latest iteration will have none of that issue- well save for the removable battery.
At MWC 2016, Samsung introduced its latest and greatest is pretty much a reactionary update and a refinement of the previous metal clad Galaxy flaghip. It is easy to see that there is no radical changes in the design language which has the same gorgeous aesthetics though this time it has a curved back like the Note5 for better ergonomics and a camera that doesn’t stick out.
In terms of display, the Galaxy S7 comes with the same 5.1-inch, QHD, super AMOLED which Samsung has perfected over the years. Always-on feature display the notification and time by keeping a small portion of the screen constantly on. Meanwhile, depending on location, a Snapdragon 820 and the Samsung Exynos 8 Octa processors will be doing the heavy lifting. There is also 4GB RAM onboard, which is the norm for flaghips these days. It seems there is less to complain about storage with the S7 as it now comes with microSD slot that can hold up to 200GB capacity card, on top of 32GB or 64GB internal storage.
Another feature that is making a comeback is a waterproof IP68 rating which is also the highlight of the S5 and a sorely missed feature of the Galaxy S6. Unfortunately, not all in the wishlist has come to fruition with the still missing user replaceable battery. But in consolation Samsung equipped the Galaxy S7 with a higher capacity 3,000 mAh battery.
In terms of camera, the adage ‘megapixel is not everything’ is applied here as the new S7 comes with a 12MP resolution which is ad fewer that last years 16MP of the Galaxy S6. But it makes up for a bigger pixel sensor that allows for better low light shot and much faster autofocus.
As for availability, The S7 and S7 Edge will be ready on the hands of US consumers on March 11.
