ZenFone 6 by Asus is all about that flip-up camera, a flagship-level specs, a big battery — at an irresistible price tag
It is not surprising that smartphone manufacturers tries to outdo each other and at the same time tries to mimic each other’s best features. Nowadays, trimming the bezels and eliminating the polarizing notch are all the rage. In order to do that front-facing camera must go and the mad dash to be the first to consolidate a camera system that can do both front and back photography begins. Enter the camera that pops-up, rotates and now officially, a flip-up camera by ZenFone 6.
At the back, you can find the cameras for taking your usual rear photos with a whopping 48-MP with f/1.79 aperture in tandem with 13-MP with 125-degree ultra-wide lens. Here is the interesting part, once the selfie camera is initiated, the module spring into action by flipping up which can take great looking selfies as it shares the same photography skill of its rear camera. Having that camera set-up makes for a cleaner, almost bezel less display without the notch or cut-out along the top portion of the display.
In terms of performance, the Asus ZenFone 6 is no slouch as it comes with a flagship performance. Its innards are composed of a Snapdragon 855 with a 7nn tech and paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM.
Having a built-in 5000 mAh battery here provides an assurance that it is easy to achieve to full day operation or even extend till the next day if you decide to lay off that power hungry high end games.
Everything looks like a state-of-the-art premium phone so far but a little hint in the display department that is not quite what it seems. It has a 6.4-inch FHD+ panel which is more in-line with midrangers but still good enough to provide a pin-sharp display. There is no in-display fingerprint sensor as well but a more traditional but reliable rear scanner is not really a deal breaker. Another missing flagship feature here is that there is no water resistance rating either, perhaps it is hard to water seal the camera’s motorized mechanism as well.
As mentioned, the pricing of the Asus ZenFone 6 is very competitive (at least €499 for the 6GB/64GB variant) which makes it easy to put it on one’s wishlist for an reasonably priced flagship tier device.
