Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Specifications, Release Date, Price
Samsung officially unveiled the stylus toting Galaxy Note 8 with lot of fanfare. Though the Note 7 exploding battery fiasco has been already dealt with in a massive worldwide recall, the latest iteration is also a confirmation that the series not going anywhere but forward contrary to earlier speculations.
It is no surprise that the Note 8 carries over the same design language found on the S8 and S8+ series, but in a much bigger form factor this time around. The most striking feature at first glance is its infinity display which gently curves at the sides. Though the device has 6.3-inch display, is less unwieldy as its predecessor, thanks to the elegance of a tall aspect ratio and that ever so shrinking bezels which is the requisite for a flagship nowadays.
The key differentiator from the Note series from Samsung other ‘8’ series is the S Pen. But this time around, the Note 8 is also first to feature a dual camera set up for a Samsung phone. Though, it is not the first to bring the nifty photography trick in the market, the better-late-than-never entry allows the Korean giant to up their camera game. The dual rear 12 MP lenses is composed of a telephoto lens that allows for more detailed close up and a wide angle lens for capturing more context of the subject. In addition, Bokeh effect that blurs the background in portrait mode is quite useful for making a person or object stand out.
As expected, the performance is also looking great with either Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8895 that will do the heavy lifting. Multitasking is not going to be a problem on paper with ample 6 GB of RAM making sure app switching goes smoothly.
Not everything is looks rosy though. Remember the explosive Note 7 battery? Looks like Samsung is not taking its chances this time around with the Note 8 using a lower capacity battery for a potentially power hungry device. But we are cautiously optimistic about how optimization and a power efficient processor could do to stamina. Otherwise, that fast charging will be put to good use more often than one would like.
