iPhone X notch: Here’s a simple workaround to hide it
A Top Notch Design
For a phone that took a sizable portion of your hard earned money, one would be forgiven for being a stickler for perfection. The iPhone X is Apple’s boldest phone yet as it introduced its major overhaul in terms of design. It is, -as expected- looks and feels premium with glass and metal construction which highlights Apple’s storied attention to detail.
And then there is that notch…
If there is such a thing as the most polarizing iPhone design yet, that would be the goofy looking black bar on top of the screen which blemishes the otherwise attractive aesthetics of the iPhone X. The notch houses the depth-sensing front camera and earpiece, flanked by vestigial display on the sides which make it appear like a conspicuous ‘horns’. On the flip side, some may find the uniquely iPhone X feature is its signature design— and in fact something that is not meant to be hidden if you want to brag your expensive iPhone.
Nevertheless, if in case you find the notch irritating and bothersome, there is a simple trick to do it- well, at least you can achieve screen symmetry while in your home screen. The solution is as simple as replacing the wallpaper. You see, the black notch is flanked by OLED display ‘horn’ extension and adding a black space to conceal while mimicking the rounded edges makes it appear seamless.
An App that hides the notch
If you are not handy with image editing software, creating a wallpaper specifically to remove the notch is not going to be easy but fortunately there is an app for that. You can download Notcho app on the Appstore to do the ‘de-notching’ for you. If you have your own pictures and wallpaper, simply import it to the the app and it will create a picture with black bar on the top with rounded corners to match the iPhone X display at the bottom. There is a caveat though- every wallpaper you create via the Notcho app is watermarked and in app purchase is a must to remove it.
Or you can download notch-free wallpapers
If you find creating your own wallpaper that hides the notch difficult and don’t want to pay for a non-watermarked images, you may download it for free because internet. You may download a series of stock notch-less ready wallpaper by checking out gadget hacks website. You can scroll down their page and find the downloadable IOS wallpaper in full resolution.
Though these wallpapers effectively hides the notch seamlessly because OLED displays like in the iPhone X are known for their deep blacks- it won’t totally go away. The method only hides it while in homescreen. Meanwhile, some apps can still give someone obsessive fits especially while scrolling on a landscape orientation. In addition, these notch-free wallpapers can give the illusion of wider top bezel whereas the bottom has a minimal one which creates another discrepancy in terms of design. Oh, well.
