Data-efficient Facebook Lite officially launched and ready for download in the Philippines and India
A few months back, Facebook introduced a lite version of its official app that streamlined its core functionalities in favor of conserving data and storage. The app is now available on the Google play store which will only take 435KB file size to download. Save for video, most of the services are there such as viewing news feed, liking, commenting and accessing messenger without having to open in another app. It may not offer as smooth and better user experience of its full-fledged sibling- in fact, far from it- but that is not exactly the point of this ‘lite’ version. As you can see, the ‘Lite’ version is way more leaner in terms of storage allocation. The original app has curved a reputation as one those app that don’t hesitate to lay waste of your phone’s resources and in this case, the high storage consumption. With the ‘Lite’ app, it doesn’t eat as much storage space which makes it practical to use for entry level phone with low internal memory.
Given it less resource hungry performance, the app is actually useful in places where there is slow internet connection. For users under a limited data, Facebook Lite is a frugal way to update your status or glance newsfeeds with much less carrier data usage involve. Users in India and the Philippines can get the app via the Play Store now while worldwide release is expected to follow.
