Apple Introduces the Small yet Mighty iPhone SE
Phone companies are releasing flagship phones left and right with huge screen and that includes Apple with its iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus phablets. But contrary to what this trend may suggest, a high-end phone in a a small form factor is not going the way of the dodo anytime soon with the introduction of the new iPhone SE. Sure, flashy big screens are all the rage right now, but there’s still segment of the market that warrants the iPhone SE’s existence, particularly those who love the olden days when phones are easy to use single-handedly.
Rehashing tried and true design is nothing new to Apple– which is essentially what the SE is. It shares the same legacy aesthetics of the 4 – inch iPhone 5 and 5s with a new color variantion as it now comes in rose gold. The difference is its more powerful hardware which is almost identical to the latest iPhone 6s, sans the force touch. Onboard, there is now the 64-bit A9 chip, which at this moment, along with its efficient IOS platform, can still go toe to toe with other flagships out there in terms of performance. Another upgrade is the camera, as it now comes with 12-MP shooter and is capable of shooting 4k video. There is no word yet if the SE uses the same 2GB ram as that of the 6S, but as we know, it will still be capable of running smoothly with half of that but would be awesome if it has the multitasking chops of its bigger siblings.
In terms of pricing, at $399 for 16GB and $499 for the 32GB, it is not hard to see it can appeal to those holding on to their iPhone 5 or 5s because they find the form factor suits their hand really well and even more conducive to one handed operation compared to Apple’s and even moreso than Android’s humongous phone offering.
