Samsung A53 Update Comes with Unwelcome AppCloud Surprise
Recently, we upgraded our Samsung A53 to the latest software version, which includes the June 1, 2023 security patch. As smartphone users, we understand the significance of receiving regular software updates for our devices.
What seemed like a routine update, promising enhanced stability, reliability, and security, unfortunately, took an unexpected turn with Samsung adding a rather sneaky and questionable addition.
To our surprise, the update brought along unwanted bloatware that attempts to install itself onto our devices. Preinstalled crapware is universally disliked by users, and it’s disappointing to encounter such sneaky tactics from Samsung, which seemingly appear out of nowhere.
What is AppCloud, and why am I coerced to install it?
The app in question is Appcloud, which is a pre-installed application endorsed by Samsung to some of its users. This controversial app surfaces after completing the firmware update on my device. During my initial encounter, I mistakenly thought that I had inadvertently installed malware on my device, as it exhibits similar behavior.
An innocuous ‘Complete your upgrade’ message appears in my notifications. Upon clicking it, you will come across a pre-checked app that may give the impression of being unchangeable due to its greyed-out state, as if it can only be installed as the next step. This practice seems quite dubious. However, that is not the case because you can untick it and proceed without installing any suspicious apps.
Get rid of Appcloud now!
We highly recommend uninstalling the app. However, on our phone, we could only disable it, not fully uninstall it. Crafty Samsung! Despite the app still being present on your phone, it will no longer run in the background. Nevertheless, there’s no guarantee that it won’t reappear in the near future.
To uninstall or disable AppCloud from your Samsung phone when you encounter it in your update, follow these steps:
>> Open Settings and select Apps.
>> Find and click on Appcloud, then disable it.
It seems that Samsung has completely removed the option to uninstall this unwanted software. So, the next best course of action is to use the disable button to ensure it doesn’t bother you, at least for now, until the next update arrives.
