Samsung A50 to receive a monthly security update
If you just buy a mid-range phone from Samsung, chances are, it is not going to get the most timely software and security patches − or you may get it eventually right after flaghships has rolled out. Most likely, a quarterly update is going to be the norm for those budget device but there are still few exceptions. Reason being is that Samsung’s midrange doesn’t have the numbers for the company to warrant its attention in terms of support.
Samsung just released a list of devices that are going to get a monthly security update and if you own a 2019’s Samsung Galaxy A50, you are in good company. As mentioned, the A series is going to be treated differently when it comes to software update. But it seems the Galaxy A50, being the most successful of the series has reached enough critical mass that it is hard for Samsung to ignore.
Some may find interesting are the other midrange phones that are scheduled for a monthly security patch. Among them are the two year old Galaxy A5, 2018’s Galaxy A8 and the Galaxy Xcover4s. Other than those mentioned including the A50, the rest however may expect much fewer security updates.
It is no surprise that newer top-of-the-line smartphones have a longer list that’ll receive the monthly update. The oldest flagship model included is the Galaxy S8 which a little over two years already.
