LG officially outs one-hand friendly big phone, the LG G6
At Mobile World Congress, LG finally unveiled their 2017 flaship — the LG G6. A plethora of leaks may doused the sense of surprise but in the end, this digital bystander feels LG G6 looks like a solid effort albeit on a safe side this time around and that is okay. The G6 didn’t go bonkers over features that polarizes opinions, thus alienate customers who prefers familiarity and reliability. This year’s flagship doesn’t have a funky curved screen nor an unconventional modular design but rather play it by the books when it comes to what constitute a flagship in 2017. That said, that is not to say that the device lacks striking features.
The LG G6’s main selling point is its 5.7 inch screen with unconventional aspect ratio 18:9 aspect ratio. The truth is it is not the most single-handed friendly phone by any stretch of the imagination. But it achieved a less intimidating taller form factor rather than a wider but totally unwieldy one. And oh, the shrunken bezels looks great with the large screen dominating the front aesthetics and is a sight to behold.
As for the camera, LG G6 retains its dual rear set-up main shooter found in the G5. But this time both main cameras have a equal 13MP resolution capable of capturing wide angle shots. Meanwhile, selfie camera has a 5MP resolution that is also able to squeeze in more subject with wider point of view.
Adhering to the norm of flagships today mean a waterproof feature is a must have. LG ditched the user replaceable battery in favor of a sealed IP68 rated device. It is now water and dust resistant and a quick dip in the water should not be an issue. As consolation, the Korean company fitted the phone with a bigger 3,300mAh battery with QuickCharge 3. That is significantly more juice than the G5 which was hounded by less than stellar endurance.
As a subtle dig at last year’s Samsung’s Note7 fiasco, LG boasts that the new G6 had undergone a stringent safety test to avoid battery mishap. There are now embedded heat pipes to channel hot temperature out of sensitive components and the battery is engineered to less likely to overheat by arranging internal components.
The LG G6 is going to be available in three different colors: Ice Platinum, Astro Black, and Mystic White. Meanwhile, there is no word yet on the exact date of release and pricing.
