iOS 11 rolls out for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
Finally, a cellular data toggle shortcut
If you are using at least a four year old iOS device, chances are, you are going to get Apple’s latest software update. iOS 11 is finally ready for prime time as Apple finally rolls out the latest update that includes new functionalities and visual overhaul of its popular mobile operating system.
The Control Center gets a new make over as it ditched the old interface in favor of a a new bolder but simpler interface. Though the new Control Center aesthetics may not please everyone, it is arguably much better than previous one. To some extent, customization is now possible as you can add, remove, and sort selected shortcuts. You can still toggle on or off some settings such as Bluetooth and WIFI or adjust volume and brightness by sliding up or down. It also makes good use of the 3D touch – just apply a bit of pressure to reveal more functions. Surprisingly, it also works well with devices without 3D touch by simply tapping and holding a shortcut. And oh, a much requested Cellular Data toggle feature is finally accessible in the Control Center- well, some things are better than never, I guess.
The App Store has also undergone a major redesign which is more about editorially curated contents to facilitate app discovery which is now divided into Today, Games, Apps, Updates, and Search. The interface is mainly navigated using vertical scrolling, which will probably take a bit of getting used to.
